Biography
Representative Jeremy Bynum
Jeremy T. Bynum is a Republican representative serving Alaska House District 1, which encompasses southern Southeast Alaska including Ketchikan, Saxman, Metlakatla, Wrangell, Hyder, and Coffman Cove. He was elected to the position in November 2024 with approximately 52% of the vote, replacing independent Dan Ortiz.
Bynum was born in Portland, Oregon, and has resided in Ketchikan since 2016. He is 49 years old and married to Carolyn L. Henry. Currently employed as an Electric Utility Manager and Professional Engineer, he brings over 22 years of experience in energy and hydroelectric power to his position.
He is an active member of several service organizations, including the American Legion, VFW, Rotary Club , Navy League, and the Elks Lodge in Wrangell. His personal interests include family, fishing, boating, travel, sports officiating, aviation, and automotive pursuits.
Education
Bynum earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Portland State University in 2005. He also completed U.S. Air Force training in Advanced Electronics and holds a Journeyman Power certification from the Air Force . He is a *Licensed Professional Engineer * in Alaska.
Political Experience
Bynum's 2024 campaign marked his entry into the Alaska State Legislature. He maintains offices in both Juneau at the State Capitol and in his home district in Ketchikan, serving constituents across a geographically diverse region of Southeast Alaska.
