Jennifer Davenport

Jennifer Davenport is an American attorney serving as the 63rd Attorney General of New Jersey since February 24, 2026. She is a Democrat and resides in Monmouth County as a mother of two daughters.

Jennifer Davenport was nominated by Governor Mikie Sherrill on December 15, 2025, to serve as New Jersey's Attorney General. She acted in the role from January 20, 2026, until her unanimous confirmation by the New Jersey Senate. As the state's chief law enforcement officer, she oversees the Department of Law and Public Safety, including over 42,000 law enforcement officers and 8,000 employees. Her priorities include combating gun violence, human trafficking, protecting children's health from online threats, advancing affordability initiatives, and defending New Jersey residents' rights against federal challenges.

Davenport has over 15 years of experience in state and federal law enforcement. She previously served four years as New Jersey's First Assistant Attorney General and Principal Law Enforcement Advisor , focusing on public safety, gun crimes, and human trafficking. She spent seven years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of New Jersey, including as Chief of the General Crimes Unit, overseeing gang prosecutions and training prosecutors. Other roles include Division Counsel for the New Jersey Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration, acting Union County prosecutor, New Jersey Commissioner on the Waterfront Commission, deputy general counsel and chief litigation counsel at PSEG, and litigation associate at Latham & Watkins and Patton Boggs. She also clerked for Chief Judge John Bissell at the U.S. District Court.

Education and Political Experience
