Jennifer Canady is a Republican representative for Florida's 50th House District, which includes parts of Polk County. Born on July 22, 1973, in Lakeland, Florida, she is a lifelong Lakeland native, teacher, wife, mother, and community leader. She is married to Charles T. Canady, a former U.S. Representative and current Justice of the Florida Supreme Court, and they have two daughters, Julia and Anna. Canady serves as Chair of the Education & Employment Committee, with additional assignments on the Budget Committee, Rules & Ethics Committee, and Security & Threat Assessment Committee. Notable achievements include directing the RISE Institute at Lakeland Christian School for 15 years, coaching the school's FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team, and growing food at the Urban Farm at Mass Market to serve the community.

Education and Political Experience

Canady attended Scott Lake Elementary, St. Paul Lutheran School, and Lakeland Highlands Jr. High, graduating from Kathleen High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Florida State University and a Master’s in Special Education from the University of South Florida . As a teacher, she taught fifth grade at Carlton Palmore Elementary and Cleveland Court Elementary and worked in her family’s Cleveland Heights Animal Hospital from a young age.

Politically, she ran unsuccessfully in the 2021 Republican primary for the 40th district but won the 2022 Republican primary for the 50th district against Phillip Walker, with no Democratic opponent in the general election, succeeding Rene Plasencia. She was reelected subsequently. Canady has been involved in local and national political campaigns and previously served as President of the Orlando Republican Women Federated.
