Biography
Jennifer Smith Boylan is a Democratic member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing District 66 . She assumed office on January 3, 2023, succeeding Liana Cassar, and lives in Barrington with her husband and two sons. Notable achievements include sponsoring laws to modernize alcoholism statutes, regulate electric bicycles, and reform school safety drills; chairing a commission on school lockdowns; advocating for gun safety laws ; and championing environmental initiatives like composting, plastic bag bans, and climate bills on microplastics, green buildings, and pollinator protections. She serves on the House Environment and Natural Resources, Health and Human Services, Innovation/Internet/Technology, and Oversight committees, and is Rhode Island State Lead for the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from New Hartford Senior High School ; BA in geology from Franklin & Marshall College; MA in earth and planetary science from Washington University in St. Louis.
- Professional Background: Early career as an environmental professional ; Director of Operations at PacketLogix ; co-owner of a small family business in Barrington since 2005; 10 years advocating for gun laws, including appointment to Gov. Gina Raimondo's Working Group for Gun Safety in 2018.
- Political Experience: Elected in November 2022; running for re-election; prior community environmental advocacy on waste minimization, safe fields, farmland protection, and open space.
