Biography
Jennifer Bacon is a Democratic member of the Colorado House of Representatives, representing House District 7 in Denver, which includes the Denver International Airport and the city's far northeast neighborhoods. Elected in 2020, she assumed office on January 13, 2021, succeeding James Coleman, and serves as Assistant Majority Leader. She is also the Chair of the Black Democratic Legislative Caucus of Colorado and sits on the House Judiciary and House Education Committees.
A lifelong advocate for youth, educational access, and criminal justice reform, Bacon has championed legislation to extend Extreme Risk Protection Orders to reduce gun violence, reduce air pollution, promote equal pay, improve workplace conditions, advance judicial reform, combat youth recidivism, and expand education programs.
Education and Political Experience
Prior to politics, Bacon worked as an educator, serving as dean of students at the Denver School of Science and Technology, managing director of Teach For America, and director at Denver Public Schools. She is an attorney by training. In 2022, she was selected as assistant majority leader for the 2023 legislative session, a role she continues to hold. As of 2026, she has sponsored 21 House bills in the regular session.
