About

Jenni A. Furtado is a Democratic member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing District 64 in East Providence and Pawtucket. Elected in November 2024, she is Rhode Island's first Peruvian-American elected official, daughter of first-generation Peruvian immigrants, and at around 31-33 years old, one of the state's youngest representatives. She resides in East Providence with her husband, Marc, works as an attorney specializing in immigration and workers' compensation law, and prioritizes issues like education funding, affordable housing, senior support, mental health in schools, and aid for businesses and municipalities.

Notable achievements include cosponsoring bills in her 2025 session to cap medical debt interest, promote affordable housing , enable 90-day ADHD prescriptions, boost state aid for schools and municipalities, and improve school mental health services. She serves on the House Labor Committee and House Municipal Government and Housing Committee.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: First in her family to graduate college with a bachelor's degree from St. John's University ; J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law .
  • Political Experience: Elected to East Providence School Committee in 2020, defeating incumbent Francis Fogarty; reelected in 2022 against David Luiz and served as chairwoman, overseeing completion of the new East Providence High School. Won Democratic primary for House District 64 in September 2024 and general election in November 2024; began first term in 2025.
