Biography

Representative Jenn O'Mara is a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing the 165th Legislative District in Delaware County, which includes parts of Springfield Township, Marple Township, Radnor Township, and the borough of Morton. She made history as the first Democrat and first woman to represent the district after upsetting the incumbent in 2018, and she has been reelected twice.

Born on November 12, 1989, in Philadelphia, Jenn O'Mara grew up as the daughter of a single mother with two younger brothers, facing financial challenges including food insecurity during college. She is married to Bradford Bitting, a combat veteran and two-time Purple Heart recipient, which inspired her advocacy for veterans. Notable achievements include championing the Hunger-Free Campus Initiative, securing $1 million annually in state budgets for on-campus food pantries; authoring Act 55 of 2021 to increase contributions to the Veterans Trust Fund; and introducing Extreme Risk Protection Order legislation to prevent suicides. She serves on committees for Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness, Transportation, and Aging and Older Adult Services, co-chairs the Mental Health Caucus, and holds appointments to the Pennsylvania Statewide Suicide Prevention Task Force, Higher Education Funding Commission, and Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency board. She was also a delegate to the 2024 Democratic National Convention and is involved with the Lion’s Club and Delaware County Historical Society.

Education and Political Experience

  • B.A. summa cum laude in history and secondary education from West Chester University , becoming a certified teacher; worked in university roles including coordinator of Student Giving Program and assistant director of university stewardship.
  • M.L.A. summa cum laude in English and history from University of Pennsylvania .

Elected to the Pennsylvania House in 2018, reelected in 2020 and 2022; unopposed in Democratic primaries. Prior to politics, she advocated with the Department of Veterans Affairs and served on the board of the Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils.
