Biography
Senator Jennifer "Jen" McEwen is a Democratic-Farmer-Labor member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 8, which covers Duluth and parts of St. Louis County. Elected in 2020 and re-elected in 2022, she currently serves her second term, residing in Duluth's Morley Heights neighborhood with her husband Rich and two children.
Notable achievements include leading the Protect Reproductive Options Act to codify abortion rights in Minnesota statutes, spearheading the 2022 and 2023 Omnibus Labor packages that banned captive audience meetings, voided non-compete clauses, expanded teacher bargaining power, extended earned sick time to all workers, and strengthened safety laws, securing funding for statewide residential lead service line replacement, and enabling unemployment insurance for hourly school workers like kitchen staff and paraprofessionals.
She chairs the Senate Labor Committee, vice-chairs the Environment, Climate, and Legacy Committee, and serves on the Energy, Utilities, Environment, and Climate Committee and Transportation Committee. McEwen is a founding member of the Minnesota Health Plan Caucus advocating for universal health care and the Reproductive Freedom Caucus.
