Biography

Jen Day is a Democrat who represented Nebraska's 49th Legislative District from January 2021 to January 2025. Born July 28, 1981, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and raised in La Vista, Nebraska, she is a former state senator, business owner, fitness coach, competitive Olympic weightlifter, and activist. She owns Artis Strength & Fitness with her husband Jonathan; they have two sons. Day lost her 2024 reelection bid to Bob Andersen . As of January 2026, she serves as Policy Director at the Women's Fund of Omaha, focusing on gender equity, economic security, freedom from violence, sexual literacy, and reproductive health. Notable achievements include chairing the State-Tribal Relations Committee; serving on Health and Human Services, Education, Urban Affairs, General Affairs, and Performance Audit Committees; passing bills on SNAP eligibility extension for 10,000 families and Summer EBT for children; and earning awards like the Woman of Excellence Award, Frank and Eleanor Roosevelt Award, Brad Ashford Courage Award, and ACLU of Nebraska’s Defender of the Bill of Rights Award.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Graduated from Papillion-La Vista High School; earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
  • Political Experience: Began activism in 2010 on public education, social justice, gender equity, and systemic racism. Elected in 2020 to Nebraska Legislature District 49 . Served one term , sponsoring/co-sponsoring dozens of bills on education, child welfare, food insecurity, women's rights, and reproductive access. Ran unsuccessfully for reelection in 2024. Previously active in community boards, fundraising for Open Door Mission, Humane Society, and Red Cross; volunteered for campaigns and school board advocacy. Since 2016, president of the Nebraska Local Weightlifting Committee.
