Biography
Jeion Antonia Ward is a Democratic member of the Virginia House of Delegates representing the 87th District in the city of Hampton . A lifelong resident of the Hampton Roads area, she has served since 2004, initially representing the 92nd District before transitioning to the 87th. She works as a middle school teacher and president of the Hampton Federation of Teachers , and serves on the Executive Council of the Virginia AFL-CIO. Notable positions include Chair of the Labor and Commerce Committee, and membership on the Transportation, Communications, Technology and Innovation, and Rules Committees. Achievements include the Sister II Sister Award and National Black Caucus of State Legislators Legislator Award ; she has also coordinated voter registration drives and Get-Out-The-Vote campaigns since 1997.
Education and Political Experience
Education: Graduated from Warwick High School , attended Thomas Nelson Community College , and earned a B.A. in English with Certification in Middle Education from Christopher Newport University .
Political Experience: Elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2004; serves on Commerce and Labor, Transportation, and General Laws committees. Active in community organizations including NAACP, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Transitions Family Violence Services , and American Red Cross Hampton Roads Chapter .
