Biography
Jeff Johnson is a Republican member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 58 in Horry County since 2014. Born on March 20, 1971, he is an attorney and businessman based in the Conway and Aynor areas, with a focus on personal injury, workers’ compensation, social security disability, and wrongful death cases. He served in the South Carolina Army National Guard from 1989 to 2002 and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals, U.S. District Court, and South Carolina Supreme Court. Notable achievements include the 2016 Boy Scouts’ Citizen of the Year, 2016 SC Soil and Water Legislator of the Year, 2019 Palmetto Pride and SC Litter Control Association Senator David Thomas Award, and 2019 SC Farm Bureau Federation Legislator of the Year. He currently serves as Chairman of the House Government Efficiency and Legislative Oversight Committee and Chair of Criminal Laws, and has previously chaired Special Laws and the Education & Cultural Affairs Committee. Johnson is an active member of Juniper Bay Baptist Church and lives with his wife, Tammy, and their three children: Tyler, Lauren, and Evan.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Conway High School , Coastal Carolina University , and Mississippi College School of Law .
- Early Career: Served on the SC Governor’s RAID Team , graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, worked as a Probation and Parole Agent, clerked for Circuit Court Judge Sidney T. Floyd , and began private law practice in 2000.
- Political Experience: Elected to the South Carolina House in 2014; serves on Judiciary, Legislative Oversight, and Education and Public Works Committees; former member of Law Enforcement and Education & Cultural Affairs Committees.
