Jay Steagall

Jay Steagall was born on December 16, 1976, and is a Republican member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives representing District 43, serving since 2018. He represents constituents in the Yukon area of Oklahoma City.

Steagall and his wife Kimberly are long-time Oklahomans with roots in the oil industry. He grew up learning about hard work and the impact of oil and related industries on the Oklahoma economy through his family's Steagall Oil Company. In 2004, Jay and Kimberly moved to Yukon, and in 2012 they expanded their family by adopting their son and daughter, Brennon and Skyllar. He currently owns and operates multiple small businesses in his community.

Education

Steagall graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2002 with a degree in Agricultural Economics.

Political Experience

Steagall has been an advocate for fiscal responsibility and constitutional governance. He has championed legislation focused on government accountability and balanced budgeting, including filing House Joint Resolution 1036, which applies to Congress for an Article V convention to propose a constitutional amendment requiring the federal government to pass a balanced budget annually. This resolution includes provisions that would withhold salaries for the president, members of Congress, and U.S. Supreme Court justices during government shutdowns, and would make members of Congress and the president ineligible for re-election if they fail to pass a balanced budget by the last Thursday of March each year.

In the Oklahoma House, Steagall serves on committees including State Powers , General Government, Government Oversight, and Veterans and Military Affairs.

Military Service

Steagall enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Guard in 1996, beginning his service with the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. In 2005, he became a commissioned officer in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, eventually ascending to the rank of Major. He served in the military from 1996 to 2019.
