Biography
Senator W. Jay Luneau represents District 29 in the Louisiana State Senate, covering Avoyelles, Bienville, Grant, Jackson, Lincoln, Natchitoches, Rapides, and Winn parishes. A lifelong resident of Central Louisiana from Pineville, he was first elected in 2015, winning with 59.34% of the vote, and re-elected in 2019 with 61.46%; his current term ends January 10, 2028. He owns Luneau Law Office in Alexandria, specializing in personal injury, workers' compensation, motor vehicle accidents, medical malpractice, and related claims. Notable achievements include volunteer general counsel for Renaissance Home for Youth since 2000 and Rapides Children’s Advocacy Center since 1995, plus prior roles on the Rapides Parish Indigent Defender Board and Central Louisiana Pro Bono Program. He previously served as an adjunct professor at Northwestern State University teaching law courses and continues legal education for lawyers and paralegals. Luneau holds leadership positions as Chair of Local and Municipal Affairs, Vice Chair of Judiciary A, and serves on Health & Welfare, Revenue & Fiscal Affairs, Atchafalaya Basin Program Oversight, Joint Capital Outlay, Legislative Audit Advisory Council, and Senate Select Committee on Homeland Security. Married to Carman, he has two children, Merritt and Wendell Jr., a son-in-law Tyler Hebert, and granddaughter Greer.
