Biography
Senator Jay C. Block is a Republican representing District 12 in the New Mexico State Senate, where he has served since 2025. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, he enlisted in the Air Force Reserves after high school, later commissioning as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force in 1995. Block served as a missile launch and maintenance officer for the Minuteman III ICBM system, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2016 from Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. Post-retirement, he worked as a defense contractor and business developer while serving as a consultant. In 2016, he became the first Republican elected to Sandoval County Commission District 2, winning reelection in 2020, before his successful 2024 election to the State Senate. He resides in Rio Rancho with his wife Jennifer and their daughter. Block serves on the Senate Committee on Military and Veterans' Affairs and the Legislative Finance Committee.
