Biography

Jason Plummer

Jason Plummer is a Republican state senator representing the 55th State Senate District in Illinois. He is a family man and businessman from Edwardsville who describes himself as a strong, independent, and conservative voice for Southern Illinois.

Plummer comes from an entrepreneurial background. In 1977, his parents—both teachers—used their savings to purchase an abandoned lumber yard in Staunton, founding the family business. Today, R.P. Lumber is still family-owned and operates over ninety retail, manufacturing, and distribution locations throughout Illinois and five other states, providing jobs for over 1,000 families across multiple industries.

Beyond lumber, Plummer serves as President and Chairman of Country Bancorp, a holding company with investments in community banks, and sits on the boards of several other companies spanning real estate, hospitality, agriculture, financial services, and technology.

The 55th State Senate District encompasses all or portions of Bond, Clay, Clinton, Effingham, Fayette, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Richland, St. Clair, and Washington Counties, stretching from Edwardsville to Olney and covering suburbs of St. Louis and historic rural communities. The district is home to over 200,000 people.

Political Experience

Plummer was first elected to the Illinois Senate in 2018 representing the 54th Senate District and was re-elected in 2022. Following redistricting, he now represents the 55th State Senate District and was re-elected in 2024, garnering more votes than any other Illinois Senator on the ballot that cycle.

He has served in caucus leadership since 2021. Plummer was named Assistant Republican Leader for the Illinois Senate Republican Caucus beginning with the 102nd General Assembly in 2021 and again for the 103rd General Assembly. In 2026, he was named Republican Caucus Chair for the Illinois Senate Republicans, where he guides caucus messaging, legislative priorities, and member coordination.

Notable Achievements

Plummer has received numerous recognitions for his service, including Legislator of the Year by the Associated Builders and Contractors, Senator of the Year by A.B.A.T.E., the St. Louis Regional Chamber's Catalyst Award, multiple "Friend of Agriculture" designations from the Illinois Farm Bureau, and the "Champion of Free Enterprise" award from the Illinois Chamber of Commerce multiple times.

He is notably the only State Senator from Southern Illinois—from either party—in Senate Leadership and was one of the youngest senators ever elected to such a position.
