Biography
Jason Michael Nemes
Jason Michael Nemes was born on March 27, 1978, in Louisville, Kentucky. He is a Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives, representing the 33rd House district, which includes eastern Jefferson County, south Oldham County, and northwest Shelby County. Nemes is an attorney and practicing Catholic who resides in Middletown, Kentucky.
Education
Nemes earned his Bachelor's degree in Government and Sociology from Western Kentucky University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville . He also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Louisville's Brandeis School of Law, teaching constitutional law courses.
Political Experience
Nemes was first elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 2016, when he won the Republican primary with 51.5% of the vote while unseating incumbent Ronald Crimm, and subsequently won the general election with 55.6% of the vote against Democratic candidate Rob Walker. He has been re-elected multiple times, most recently in 2024 with 56.9% of the vote against Democratic candidate Taylor Jolly.
Within the legislature, Nemes has achieved significant leadership positions. He has served as House Majority Whip since 2022, elected to this position by his Republican colleagues. He also serves on several committees, including the Judiciary Committee, Rules Committee, and Committee on Committees.
Prior to his work in the legislature, Nemes held prominent positions within Kentucky's judicial system. He served as Chief of Staff to the Office of the Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice and as Director of the Administrative Office of the Courts—the highest unelected position in the Kentucky Court of Justice. In this latter role, he oversaw a $350 million budget and managed over 3,000 employees across all 120 Kentucky counties.
In private practice, Nemes has represented businesses and individuals in litigation and regulatory matters across Kentucky. He has been recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star and has been included in the Kentucky Super Lawyers list for Business Litigation since 2015. He also specializes in election law and has represented boards of elections, candidates, voters, and political action committees before various Kentucky and federal courts.
