Biography

Jason Scott Luck is a Democratic member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 54 since 2024. An attorney, potter, and resident of Bennettsville, South Carolina, he is married to Emzee Hilliard. Born on July 4, 1977, Luck won his seat in 2024 after defeating Betty Jo Quick in the Democratic primary and Republican Sterling McDiarmid in the general election, campaigning amid personal challenges including a rabid bat bite and his daughter's premature birth.

Education and Political Experience

Luck maintains a law practice in Bennettsville, arguing cases before the South Carolina Supreme Court even during his 2024 campaign from the NICU. First elected in 2024 to the 126th General Assembly and sworn in on December 3, 2024, he filed for re-election in 2026. Notable achievements include securing $25 million for Lake Paul Wallace dam reconstruction—the largest investment since 1955—to protect against Crooked Creek flooding, and $325,340 in grants for Society Hill parks and drainage. He supported the FY 2025–2026 budget boosting teacher pay by $1,500, workforce training, public safety, and infrastructure, plus legislation on smash-and-grab theft, AI child exploitation, and a handheld cellphone driving ban.
