Biography

Jason M. Lewis is a Democrat representing the Fifth Middlesex District in the Massachusetts State Senate, which includes the cities and towns of Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, and parts of Winchester. First elected to the Senate in 2014 after serving five years in the Massachusetts House of Representatives , he has been a progressive leader on issues like healthcare, education, economic opportunity, and environmental policy. Notable achievements include leading the passage of the Student Opportunity Act in 2019 for educational equity, raising the state's minimum wage to $15/hour and creating paid family/medical leave in 2018 , and co-founding caucuses like Prevention for Health, Zero Waste, and Middlesex Fells. He currently serves as Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Public Health , Chair of the Senate Ethics Committee, Assistant Majority Whip, and member of Senate President Karen Spilka’s leadership team.
