Biography

Jason Knight is a Democratic member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing District 67 since his election in November 2016. Born on October 28, 1969, in Boise, Idaho, he has served as Deputy Majority Leader since January 2021 and holds key committee roles, including first vice chair of the House Judiciary Committee, and membership on the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee and House State Government and Elections Committee.

Notable achievements include sponsoring criminal justice reforms, such as a 2022 law eliminating court fees to reduce re-incarceration, expanded sealing of arrest records, and waiving expungement fees. In 2025, he led updates to Rhode Island's "revenge porn" law to cover AI-generated deepfakes and enabled tax credit programs for seniors volunteering in communities. Knight has championed gun safety measures, including the 2025 assault weapons ban, bans on straw purchases and high-capacity magazines, safe storage requirements, and bump stock prohibitions. Other efforts cover fair elections, environmental protections, economic justice, reproductive rights, and public safety.

A former U.S. Navy veteran, Knight lives in Barrington with his wife Nicole and their family.
