Biography
Jason Hoskins is a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 18th District in Oakland County, which includes Southfield, Lathrup Village, parts of Farmington Hills, Farmington, and Oak Park. Born on March 15, 1984, in Detroit, he has served since 2023 and is currently in his second term after winning re-election in 2024. He is the first LGBTQ person of color elected to the Michigan House, achieving a 79% victory in the 2022 general election. His legislative priorities include economic development, education, gun violence prevention, environmental protection, justice reform, and affordable health care. He serves as chair of the Committee on Economic Development and Small Business and minority vice chair of the Committee on Finance, among others like Health Policy, Judiciary, and Transportation.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: B.S. in Political Science ; Master's in Public Administration ; Juris Doctor . He also worked as an adjunct professor at Lawrence Tech University, teaching ethics, leadership, and societal issues.
- Political Experience: Legislative Aide to State Rep. Rudy Hobbs and Legislative Director to State Sen. Jeremy Moss; Southfield City Councilman , where he chaired the Legislative Committee , served on Economic Development , and Neighborhood Services . Active in Southfield Lathrup Democratic Club, ACLU of Michigan, Sierra Club, Wolverine Bar Association, and Straker Bar Association.
