Raised in a working-class family, Crow worked minimum-wage jobs during high school and enlisted in the National Guard to help finance his college education. After earning his bachelor's degree, he joined the active-duty Army, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division and the elite 75th Ranger Regiment.
