Biography
Jason S. Ballard is a Republican member of the Virginia House of Delegates representing District 42, which includes Giles County, parts of Montgomery and Pulaski Counties, and the City of Radford. Born in Pearisburg, Virginia, he is a husband to Catherine Teresa Gardill Ballard and father to four children: Sydney, William, James, and John Thomas. A veteran with 12 years of active-duty service in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps , including combat deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq , he served with the 10th Mountain Division, commanded the JAG School’s Student Detachment in Charlottesville, and was a member of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment with additional Middle East tours. He continues in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel. Ballard is a trial lawyer and owner of Ballard Law LLC in Pearisburg, a former Pearisburg Town Council member, and an active affiliate of organizations including Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Officers Association of America, Night Stalker Association, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and Pearisburg First United Methodist Church. Notable achievements include defeating Democratic incumbent Chris Hurst to win the 12th District seat in 2021 and re-election to the newly formed 42nd District in 2023; he maintains a 100% voting record on REALTOR issues, advocates for rural broadband expansion, small business tax cuts, and infrastructure investments.
