Biography
Jarrod Marshall Lowery is a Republican politician and member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. He represented North Carolina House District 47 from 2022 until resigning on October 7, 2025, after being appointed to a position in the Trump administration. Notable achievements include introducing the American Indians Graduating with Honors Act to protect cultural objects at graduations, Kayla's Law for domestic abuse victims, and the Work and Save Act for retirement savings; securing millions in state funding for Robeson County; receiving the "Jobs Champion" award from the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce; and leading the Pledge of Allegiance at the 2024 Republican National Convention. His brother, John L. Lowery, was appointed to succeed him in District 47.
Education and Political Experience
- Early Roles: Served on the Lumbee Tribal Council , representing Oxendine, Prospect, and Wakulla communities; chaired the Economic Development and Federal Recognition Committees, advocating for federal recognition.
- State Government: Regional Outreach Liaison on Governor Pat McCrory's senior staff, working with rural communities, veterans, and American Indian leaders; Regional Director for Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey , focusing on first responders.
- Legislative Service: Elected in 2022 by a 22-point margin, replacing Democrat Charles Graham; served on committees including Agriculture, Families/Children/Aging Policy, Finance, Redistricting, and as vice-chair of Federal Relations and Indian Affairs.
