Biography
Jared Solomon is a Democratic state representative for Pennsylvania's 202nd District, covering part of northeast Philadelphia, where he has served since 2017. Born and raised in Philadelphia's Castor Gardens neighborhood by his single mother, a public school teacher, he was elected after defeating a 42-year incumbent in 2016.
Education and Political Experience
Solomon graduated from Swarthmore College and Villanova University’s Charles Widger School of Law. Before entering politics, he worked at a Philadelphia law firm fighting corporate abuse, founded a community organization to improve parks, youth sports, and neighborhood safety, and joined the Army Reserves as a Judge Advocate General’s officer, currently serving as a defense lawyer for the Pennsylvania National Guard.
Notable achievements include passing a 2022 law enabling local tax incentives for affordable housing and a 2017 law creating a voluntary veterans registry; securing funding for gun violence task forces and community diversion services; and serving as minority impeachment manager against Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner in 2022. His priorities encompass government reform, reducing gun violence, workforce development, veterans' support, election integrity, and neighborhood safety through better lighting, youth programs, and infrastructure.
