Biography
Jared Deck is a Democratic representative for Oklahoma House District 44, serving since November 16, 2022, after winning the general election with over 73% of the vote against Republican RJ Harris. He is an award-winning musician, business owner, and work-at-home dad who grew up on a family farm in western Oklahoma, where he helped with wheat, cattle, and a local grocery store. In 2007, he and 275 coworkers lost factory jobs to overseas outsourcing, sparking his shift to grassroots organizing and political advocacy for progressive causes over the past 15 years. Deck serves on boards including Moore Norman Technology Center Board of Education, Variety Care Health Centers, ACLU of Oklahoma, and SWOSU Alumni Association; he is also a member of Sooner Rotary Satellite Club and Local 375-703 American Federation of Musicians. Notable roles include former Executive Director of Oklahoma Future Fund, volunteer for Yes on 802 Medicaid Expansion, and organizer for Norman's Transgender Day of Remembrance. Married to Jacy for over 11 years, they have two children, Rachel and Jude. He holds committee assignments in A&B Judiciary, Banking/Financial Services/Pensions, Civil Judiciary, Energy, and Energy/Natural Resources Oversight.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: BA in Music Performance from Southwestern Oklahoma State University ; worked at a factory during studies and later as an Upward Bound teacher and elementary substitute.
- Political Experience: Announced 2021 campaign to succeed Rep. Emily Virgin; won Democratic primary over Kate Bierman; elected 2022 and reelected for District 44 . Former Democratic Alternate on Cleveland County Election Board and Secretary of Cleveland County Democratic Party. During the pandemic, organized for healthcare access in Norman before running for office.
