Biography
Janis Holt
Janis Holt was born on December 20, 1959, and is a lifelong Republican who cast her first presidential vote for Ronald Reagan in 1980. She has lived in Silsbee, a small rural town in Hardin County in Southeast Texas, since 1993. Holt is married to her husband Alton and together they have been married for almost 33 years. They are the owners of Hi-Tech Air Purification Systems, which provides air purification systems for homes, businesses, and military installations. The couple also raises Angus cattle on their ranch. Holt and her husband have four married children and five grandchildren.
Education and Professional Background
Holt holds a Bachelor of Science degree. Her professional background includes work as a dental assistant and a 4th-grade schoolteacher in the public school system. She has been actively involved in education as a school board trustee for the Silsbee Independent School District since 2014 and currently serves as board president.
Political Experience
District and Office: Holt represents the 18th district of the Texas House of Representatives, which includes parts of Hardin, Liberty, Montgomery, and San Jacinto counties. She assumed office on January 14, 2025, after winning her first election in November 2024 with 86.6% of the vote. She previously defeated incumbent Ernest Bailes in the Republican primary election in March 2024.
Party Leadership and Organizational Roles: As a delegate to Republican conventions at the precinct, county, and state levels since 2008, Holt has been an elected delegate to the National Convention in 2012 and 2016. She served as a member of the 2016 Electoral College from Congressional District 36 and was awarded RPT Volunteer of the Year from Senatorial District 3 in 2017. She has held various positions within the Hardin County Republican Women, including treasurer, secretary, and four terms as president. Within the Texas Federation of Republican Women, she has served as VP of Finance, VP of Campaign Activities, District Director, and Awards Chair. She was named one of TFRW's 10 Outstanding Women in 2019 and was honored as Woman of Distinction in May 2022. At the national level, she has served on the Board of Directors of the National Federation of Republican Women, holding positions including Chair of the Faith Coalition Committee and Campaign Chair.
Judicial Commission: Holt was appointed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in December 2019 to serve on the State Commission on Judicial Conduct. She serves on the Commission's Executive Committee as Vice-Chair.
Community Service: Holt has been a Precinct Chair and Election Judge. She is a member of the Texas Republican Party Grassroots Club and maintains active involvement in her community through various Republican women's organizations.
