Biography
Jamila Taylor is a Democratic State Representative for Washington's 30th Legislative District, which includes communities such as Federal Way, Milton, Algona, and Pacific. Elected in 2020, she is an attorney, small business owner, and advocate for crime victims, youth, women, seniors, and vulnerable populations, with notable roles including Chair of the Civil Rights & Judiciary Committee and former Chair of the Washington State Legislature Black Members Caucus.
Jamila Taylor, born December 9, 1975, is a Federal Way resident who moved to King County in 2007 to start her legal career. Daughter of retired history professor Quintard Taylor and former Girl Scout office administrator Carolyn Fain Taylor, she was raised with a strong emphasis on education and public service. She shares her home with her mother and sibling, both living with chronic illnesses, which informs her focus on affordable housing, healthcare, public safety, and support for low-income residents and seniors. Taylor launched a legal practice and nonprofit consulting business in 2014 and served as Statewide Advocacy Counsel for the Northwest Justice Project, managing legal aid for domestic violence survivors and crime victims. Her priorities include pandemic recovery for families and businesses, economic development, behavioral health access, digital equity, and equitable public safety. Notable achievements include passing HB 1514 through the House Transportation Committee to promote ride-sharing vanpools for affordable travel and fossil fuel reduction, and leading the largest Black Members Caucus in state history as its 2021 Chair.
