Biography

Jamie Long is a Democratic-Farmer-Labor member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 61B in southern Minneapolis, Hennepin County. Born on December 19, 1981, he resides in Southwest Minneapolis with his wife, Melissa, and their two children. An attorney by occupation, Long has served since 2019, currently in his fourth term , and holds the position of DFL Floor Leader and Chair of the Rules and Legislative Administration Committee.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: B.A. in political science from Carleton College; J.D. from The George Washington University Law School.
  • Early Career: Worked in energy, environment, and transportation policy as Legislative Director and Deputy Chief of Staff for Congressman Keith Ellison; litigation associate at Morgan Lewis; interned with a public defender’s office and the Natural Resources Defense Council’s Climate Center; currently senior staff attorney at the Public Health Law Center focusing on tobacco control and climate issues.
  • Political Experience: Elected in 2018 after incumbent Paul Thissen retired; reelected in 2020, 2022, and 2024. Served as Assistant Majority Leader , Chair of Climate and Energy Finance and Policy Committee , and Majority Leader .
