Biography
James Reavis is a Democratic member of the Montana House of Representatives, representing District 47, which covers downtown and south Billings, Montana. Born in Butte, Montana, he is an attorney in private practice focusing on family law, criminal defense, and appeals before the Montana Supreme Court. Previously, he served as a public defender for the State of Montana for 11 years, protecting constitutional rights. Notable achievements include testifying before the legislature for over a decade, drafting legislation to protect children from sexual assault, and reducing state government red tape. He serves on the Taxation, Human Services, and Rules committees.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Montana and a Master’s in Public Administration.
- Political Experience: Ran unsuccessfully for House District 50 in 2022 ; won District 47 in 2024 by defeating Republican Stephanie Moncada with 53% of the vote; currently serving and running for re-election to protect constitutional rights and promote economic security.
