Biography
Jaime Churches
Jaime Churches is a Democratic politician and educator from Michigan's Downriver region. Born on August 23, 1988, in Snellville, Georgia, Churches is a longtime resident of Wyandotte and Downriver communities. She is Catholic and currently single.
Churches has built her career around public service and community advocacy. Before entering electoral politics, she worked as a fifth-grade teacher across multiple school districts in Wayne County, including the Brownstown-Woodhaven School District and Grosse Ile Township School District. She also served as a union vice president, advocating for teachers and working families. Her background as an educator and organizer shaped her commitment to addressing inequities in public education, labor rights, and community investment.
Currently, Churches serves as the Emgage Michigan State Director, a position in which she focuses on civic engagement and building bridges across diverse communities through advocacy, education, and democratic participation.
Education
Churches earned her undergraduate degree from Madonna University in 2011, with a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Science and a minor in Elementary Education. She continued her graduate studies at the same institution, completing a Master's in Educational Leadership in 2016.
Political Experience
Churches served as a Michigan State Representative for the 27th House District beginning in January 2023, following her election on November 8, 2022. The district encompasses parts of Wayne County, including Gibraltar, Grosse Ile Township, Riverview, Southgate, Trenton, and Wyandotte.
During her tenure in the House, Churches served on multiple committees including Education, Elections, Energy and Communications and Technology, Ethics and Oversight, and Labor. She held the position of Majority Vice Chair of the Committee on Education, reflecting her legislative focus on educational policy.
Her primary policy priorities include education, labor, and infrastructure. Churches is known for using her advocacy and problem-solving skills to promote policies that support working families and address systemic inequities in Michigan communities.
