Biography
Jacqui Irwin is a Democratic Assemblymember representing California's 42nd Assembly District, which spans portions of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties, including cities like Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Malibu, and Calabasas. Born Jacqueline Van Egmond Irwin on January 3, 1962, in Encino, California, she is a mother of three, married to Jon since 1986, and has built a career as an engineer, former mayor, and advocate for public safety, veterans, cybersecurity, and environmental protection. Notable achievements include strengthening gun violence restraining orders after the 2018 Borderline Shooting in Thousand Oaks, creating protections for online charitable giving, combating hospice fraud, expanding tax-free savings for the disabled, and chairing committees on Military and Veterans Affairs and Revenue and Taxation . She currently chairs the Select Committee on Cybersecurity and serves on committees addressing electric vehicles, higher education, and wildfire prevention. In 2025, her district was impacted by the Palisades Fire, one of the most destructive wildfires in Los Angeles history.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Academic All-American swimmer at UC San Diego; worked as a systems engineer at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab and Teledyne Systems.
- Political Experience: Served on Thousand Oaks Planning Commission ; elected to Thousand Oaks City Council , including two terms as mayor, where she advocated for open space preservation and safe communities. Elected to California State Assembly in 2014 for the 44th District , then redistricted to the 42nd District .
