Biography

Jacob Rosecrants is a Democratic member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, representing District 46 since 2017. Born October 10, 1977, in Oklahoma City, he has lived in Norman for over 30 years and is a product of Norman Public Schools. He is the father of two children and shares his home with his long-time partner and four dogs. A former social studies teacher in inner-city Oklahoma City Public Schools, Rosecrants focuses on public education, child welfare, mental health, and bipartisan legislation to support students, teachers, and retirees.

Notable achievements and positions include authoring the Oklahoma Play to Learn Act to promote play-based learning in early childhood education; advocating for a bill requiring 40 minutes of recess daily for pre-K through 8th grade; helping pass a teacher pay raise in 2018 and a cost-of-living adjustment for state retirees; and filing legislation to repeal HB 1775 . He serves on committees including Alcohol, Tobacco and Controlled Substances; A&B Transportation; Common Education; and Judiciary and Public Safety Oversight. Accolades include 2021 Oklahoma Education Association Outstanding Legislator, Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy Lawmaker of the Year, Oklahoma School Psychological Association Legislator of the Year, and Oklahoma Association of Young Children "Friend of Young Children Award." He is a member of the bipartisan Early Childhood Legislative Caucus.

Education and Political Experience

Education: Graduated from Norman High School; earned a Bachelor's degree in History with a minor in Classical Cultures from the University of Oklahoma.

Political Experience: Taught Geography and History in Oklahoma City Public Schools from 2012 to 2017 before being elected to the Oklahoma House in 2017. Re-elected since, he continues advocating for increased school funding, teacher stipends, reduced high-stakes testing, and mental health initiatives, including an interim study on Mental Health and Managed Care.
