Biography
Jackie Walorski was a Republican who represented Indiana's 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2013 until her death in a car accident. Born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, she was the daughter of an Air Force veteran, firefighter, and small business owners, which instilled values of public service and entrepreneurship. Walorski began her career as a crime reporter at WSBT-TV, later worked in development for colleges, and founded Impact International in Romania to aid impoverished children with medical supplies. She was a dedicated advocate for families, notably championing the reauthorization of the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting program; her legacy includes the Jackie Walorski Center for Evidence-Based Case Management. She served on the House Armed Services, Budget, and Veterans’ Affairs Committees.
Education
Walorski graduated from Riley High School in South Bend and earned a B.A. in communication and public administration from Taylor University.
Political Experience
- Indiana House of Representatives , 2005–2010: Won election in 2004 , reelected in 2006 and 2008 .
- U.S. House , 2013–2022: Lost 2010 general election to Joe Donnelly but won in 2012 and held the seat until her passing.
