Jack Walsh - Delaware State Senator
John "Jack" Walsh is a Democratic state senator representing the 9th Senate District in Delaware, which includes Christiana and portions of Newark, Pike Creek, Stanton, and Newport. A lifelong Delawarean, Walsh is a trained electrician by trade and has been a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 313 for nearly 35 years. From 1993 to 2002, he served on Local 313's board of directors, executive board, and political action committee, and led the union's Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee from 1996 to 2001.
Before entering elected office, Walsh was deeply involved in community service as a long-time member of the Montclare Civic Association, where he served as president. He currently works as a project manager for Preferred Electric Inc.
Education
Walsh is a graduate of St. Mark's High School, which he attended in 1980.
Political Experience
Walsh was first elected to the Delaware Senate in November 2016, succeeding retiring Democratic state Senator Karen Peterson. He has since been re-elected in 2020 and 2022, defeating his Republican opponents with strong margins.
Since joining the Senate, Walsh has focused on economic development, workforce issues, and animal abuse legislation. He is known for sponsoring legislation to reduce wage theft and increase Delaware's minimum wage. Under Senate Bill 15, Delaware's minimum wage was gradually increased to $15 an hour.
