Biography
Jack Martins is a Republican/Conservative politician and attorney serving as the New York State Senator for District 7 on Long Island, which includes communities such as Albertson, East Williston, Floral Park, Garden City Park, Great Neck, Herricks, Hicksville, Lake Success, Manhasset, Manorhaven, Mineola, New Hyde Park, Old Westbury, Port Washington, Roslyn, Sands Point, Stewart Manor, Westbury, and Williston Park. A lifelong resident of Mineola, he lives there with his wife, Paula, and their four daughters. First elected to the Senate in 2010 after defeating incumbent Democrat Craig M. Johnson by 451 votes, he served continuously from 2011 to 2017, was re-elected in 2022 and 2024 for additional terms, and continues to hold the seat as of 2026. Notable achievements include leading Long Island legislators in bills passed, authoring laws to reduce school busing costs, improve firefighter safety via a truss notification system, and create a fund for homeless veterans; supporting New York's property tax cap, middle-class income tax cuts, and MTA payroll tax repeals; and revitalizing Mineola as mayor by addressing bankruptcy risks, developing transit-oriented downtown plans, and stabilizing its tax base. He has held key committee roles, including chair of Labor, Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business, and Local Government; ranking member of Housing, Construction and Community Development, and Procurement and Contracts; and service on the Mandate Relief Council. Martins is a partner at Harris Beach PLLC and serves on the FLAD Board of Directors.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of Chaminade High School; holds degrees from American University and St. John’s University School of Law.
- Political Experience: Elected Mayor of Mineola for four terms , turning around its finances from near-bankruptcy; served on NYCOM's Finance Policy, Executive, and Nassau County Village Officials committees; State Senator for District 7 since 2011 ; Vice Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference; senior member of Labor Committee; committees include Finance, Housing, Judiciary, Health, and Procurement.
