Biography
Jack Patrick Lewis is a Democratic state representative for the 7th Middlesex District in Massachusetts, which includes the town of Ashland and portions of Framingham . First elected in November 2016 and sworn in on January 4, 2017, he has served multiple terms, currently holding office through at least January 6, 2027. Notable achievements include co-founding OUT MetroWest in 2011, a nonprofit supporting LGBTQ+ youth through support groups, trainings, and events, which earned the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network’s Nonprofit Excellence Award in 2016. He serves as co-chair of the Massachusetts House Progressive Caucus , House Chair of the Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government, and Chair of the House Committee on Federal Stimulus and Census Oversight. Lewis leads on priorities like suicide prevention, animal welfare, youth health, environmental justice, and HIV prevention. He has received awards such as Legislator of the Year from MetroWest Legal Services and MassEquality’s Political Icon Award, among others including the Caring Bear Award, Trans Community Ally Award, and Legislative Champion Award from the YMCA.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degrees in Political Science, International Studies, and Middle East Studies from the University of Utah; Master of Divinity from Eden Theological Seminary.
- Pre-Political Career: From 2010 to 2014, served as Assistant Minister for Religious Education and Social Justice at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Wellesley Hills; nonprofit executive director, including co-founding OUT MetroWest.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 2016, succeeding Tom Sannicandro; currently in his fifth term as of recent records, with leadership roles in key committees and caucuses focused on progressive and social justice issues.
