Biography
John R. Roth is a Republican state representative serving Michigan's 104th House District, which includes parts of Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Manzie counties. First elected in 2020, he was reelected in 2022 and 2024, with his current term running through December 31, 2026. From Interlochen, Roth previously served on the Grand Traverse County Commission , Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation Commission , and as chair of the Grand Traverse County Republican Party . He is a delegate and executive committee member of the county Republican Party since 2008. Roth owns a marina, provides lawn maintenance at a local country club in summer, and works at a ski house in winter. He moved to Grand Traverse County in 1987 with his wife and they have two daughters.
Notable achievements and positions: Serves on the House Appropriations Committee; chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Services; vice chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education and Community Colleges; member of the Medicaid and Behavioral Health, and Agriculture and Rural Development and Natural Resources Appropriations subcommittees. Focuses on Northern Michigan issues like workforce housing, childcare, business recovery post-COVID, and mental health services. Recently advocated for closing the state-run Michigan Youth Treatment Center to protect children.
