Biography
J.D. Chaplin is a Republican South Carolina State Senator representing District 29, which includes Chesterfield, Darlington, Lee, Marlboro, and Sumter Counties. Born on April 7, 1994, in Hartsville, S.C., he is a fourth-generation row crop farmer from a family that has worked the land around Hartsville and Darlington County for 85 years. A Baptist and member of Black Creek Baptist Church in Dovesville, he was recently elected in 2024 and is serving his first term following a resolved election protest. Notable sponsorship includes South Carolina Senate Resolution 938, honoring WWII veteran Sgt. Bruce Cook with the French Legion of Honor.
