Ivan Posey is a Democratic member of the Wyoming House of Representatives, representing District 33 since January 6, 2025. Born on January 11, 1960, on the Wind River Indian Reservation, he is the youngest of 13 children and an Eastern Shoshone tribal member. In 2024, he defeated incumbent Republican Sarah Penn with 57.80% of the vote, becoming the only Native American or Indigenous member of the 68th Wyoming Legislature. Notable achievements include 21 years on the Shoshone Business Council , founding the Eastern Shoshone Boys and Girls Club, and chairing the Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council . He advocates for public safety, federal funding, law enforcement, youth issues, land resources, gaming, and Indigenous community development.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: Attended Fort Washakie Elementary, Chilocco Indian School in Oklahoma, and Central Wyoming College; currently serves as Director of Tribal Education and the Institute of Tribal Learning at Central Wyoming College.

• Professional Career: Worked eight years for the USDA Forest Service in Shoshone National Forest on environmental management, civil rights, and diversity; Culture Director for Fremont County School District #38 .
• Political and Tribal Roles: First Tribal Liaison for the Shoshone and Arapaho Tribes appointed by Governor Dave Freudenthal ; Kellogg Fellow and Ambassador with Americans for Indian Opportunity; affiliated with Wind River Development Fund and other Indigenous organizations.
