Ina Minjarez

Ina Marie Minjarez was born on March 27, 1975, in El Paso, Texas. She is a lawyer and former Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives, representing District 124 in San Antonio. Minjarez is married to Leo Gomez.

Education

Minjarez earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and English from the University of Notre Dame. She later attended St. Mary's Law School in San Antonio, where she completed her Juris Doctor degree. During her legal education, she interned with the Bexar County Criminal District Court.

Political Experience

Minjarez served as Assistant District Attorney for Bexar County from 2000 through 2006, building her legal career in criminal prosecution. She was sworn into the Texas House of Representatives on April 30, 2015, after winning a special election on April 21, 2015.

In the 2018 general election, Minjarez won her second full term decisively, receiving 31,674 votes against Republican challenger Johnny S. Arredondo, who received 15,151 votes . Despite backing from Governor Greg Abbott, her opponent was unable to unseat her.

Following her House service, Minjarez pursued a run for Bexar County Judge, outlining plans to use Commissioners Court to challenge Republican-led policies from the state government in Austin.
