Biography
Howard Watts III is a Democratic member of the Nevada Assembly representing District 15 . Born and raised in Las Vegas to Culinary Union members, he was elected in 2018 after winning a competitive Democratic primary and general election, assuming office in 2019. He owns and operates a small public relations business and lives in the historic Huntridge neighborhood.
Notable achievements include chairing the Assembly Natural Resources Committee , authoring legislation banning battery cage egg sales , and passing laws on water conservation, electric vehicles, Native American voting access, mobile home protections, minimum wage increases, paid leave, criminal justice reforms, and health care affordability. Recognitions include “Local Hero” , “Activist of the Year” , Mario Savio Young Activist Award , “Rising Environmental Leader” , “Most Civil Libertarian Legislator” , and Policy Leadership Award . He currently serves on Growth and Infrastructure, Judiciary, Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Mining committees.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of Clark County School District and University of Nevada, Las Vegas .
- Political Experience: Began with Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada as volunteer and field director post-high school; self-employed PR specialist since 2014; Nevada Assembly since 2019, with leadership roles in Natural Resources and Growth and Infrastructure .
