Biography
Heidi Balderree is a Republican member of the Utah State Senate representing District 22, which covers parts of Utah County including Lehi, Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, and a portion of Draper in Salt Lake County. She assumed office on October 17, 2023, after winning a special Republican caucus election to replace resigning Senator Jake Anderegg, and was re-elected in 2024, winning the primary and running unopposed in the general election. Her legislative priorities include transportation, education, economic stability, and anti-crony capitalism; she serves as co-chair of the Public Education Appropriations Subcommittee and on the Senate Education, Judiciary, Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice, and Social Services Appropriations Committees. Notable achievements include spearheading bills like SB 0047 and SB 0100 , receiving the 2024 Friend of the Utah Taxpayer Award with a perfect score, and a 97% rating from the Libertas Institute for defending liberties. Previously, she was Director of Community Engagement for Americans for Prosperity Utah, where she advanced school choice, income tax reduction, and conservative education campaigns, and now works as a Business Evaluator in the Graduate Business Ethics Department at Western Governors University. She lives in Saratoga Springs with her husband John and their four children.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Anthropology from Brigham Young University; Master's in Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School of Management.
- Political Experience: Former educator teaching Japanese and Spanish ; precinct chair multiple times, Secretary of Utah County Republican Party , Republican State Central Committee , Chair of Utah County Planning Commission ; grassroots activist starting in 2014 on local policy issues in Saratoga Springs.
