Biography
Harry Niska is a Republican member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing District 31A in Anoka County, which includes the cities of Ramsey and Andover in the north Twin Cities metropolitan area. Elected in 2022 and reelected in 2024, he assumed office on January 3, 2023, and serves his second term through January 3, 2027. He resides in Ramsey, is married to Jennifer, and has three children. As an attorney, Niska is an accomplished courtroom advocate who has clerked for judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and argued cases nationwide. Notable positions include Majority Leader , GOP Floor Leader, and Co-Chair of Rules and Legislative Administration. He also serves on the Commerce Finance and Policy and Judiciary Finance and Civil Law committees. Niska holds anti-abortion views and has criticized certain DFL abortion-rights legislation.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: B.A. in political science from Concordia College ; J.D. from University of Minnesota Law School. Grew up in western Andover and graduated from Anoka High School.
- Political Experience: First elected to the Minnesota House in 2022 after redistricting and the retirement of incumbent Cal Bahr. Reelected in 2024 for the 94th Legislative Session . Advanced conservative values through legal and political work prior to election.
