Harry Bean
Harry Herbert Bean was a Republican who served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives representing the Belknap district. He passed away on February 14, 2026.
Bean was born on December 5, 1954, in Laconia, New Hampshire. He came from a prominent local family with deep roots in the area—his family had lived at the same location on Saltmarsh Pond Road since 1842, and he was the third of five generations of Beans named Harry. He was married and had three children. Bean resided in Gilford, New Hampshire.
Education
Bean completed his high school education and later earned his GED.
Political Experience
Bean was first elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives on November 6, 2018, representing the Belknap 2 district, and assumed office on December 5, 2018. He later represented Belknap 6, which encompassed Gilford, Gilmanton, and Ward 2 of Laconia.
During his tenure, Bean became a prominent leader within Belknap County, serving as head of the Belknap County Delegation for over two years. He was particularly noted for navigating the 2022 Gunstock crisis by assembling a coalition of state representatives to manage internal delegation conflicts. Beyond his legislative role, Bean was also a member of the Gilford Budget Committee and owned H & P Apartments, a rental property business.
