Biography

Harold V. Jones II is a Democratic state senator representing Georgia's 22nd District, which includes the City of Augusta and portions of Richmond County. Born on August 1, 1969, he has served in the Georgia State Senate since 2015, after being elected in 2014. He was elected Senate Minority Leader in 2024 and previously served as Democratic Whip. Notable achievements include being the first African American elected Solicitor General for Richmond County in 2004 , where he prosecuted misdemeanor crimes while advocating for victims and fairness. He holds leadership roles on committees such as Rules, Ethics , Administrative Affairs, Judiciary, Public Safety, Reapportionment and Redistricting, Regulated Industries and Utilities, and Higher Education. Jones is actively involved in community organizations like the NAACP, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Downtown Rotary Club, and Greater Augusta Arts Council , and he founded the Harold V. Jones II Social Studies Award for Glenn Hills High School seniors pursuing political science.
