Representative Hamilton Grant

Hamilton Richburg Grant is a Democratic member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 79 in Richland County, which includes Columbia. Grant earned his bachelor's degree from South Carolina State University in 2011 and later completed a graduate degree at Alabama A&M University in 2014.

Political Experience

Grant launched his bid for the House District 79 seat in February 2024 after incumbent Ivory Torrey Thigpen announced plans to run for the South Carolina Senate seat. He won the Democratic primary against community activist Jonneika Farr and subsequently defeated Republican nominee Rebecca Madsen in the general election. He assumed office on November 11, 2024.
