Biography
Gretchen Whitmer is a Democratic politician serving as the 49th Governor of Michigan since 2019, representing the entire state rather than a specific district. Born on August 23, 1971, in Lansing, Michigan, she is a lifelong Michigander whose father headed the Michigan Department of Commerce and whose mother was an assistant attorney general. Notable achievements include signing over 1,000 bipartisan bills, four balanced budgets, major infrastructure fixes , record education investments, and economic development creating 35,000 auto jobs. She was reelected in 2022, survived a 2020 foiled kidnapping plot by militia members, delivered the Democratic response to the 2020 State of the Union, and served as DNC vice chair until 2025.
