Biography
Greta Neubauer is a Democratic politician representing Wisconsin's 66th Assembly District in Racine County. Born on September 13, 1991, in Racine, Wisconsin, she has served as Minority Leader of the Wisconsin State Assembly since January 2022, making her the youngest leader of a Wisconsin caucus since 1943 at age 30. She was first elected in a special election in January 2018 at age 27 and has been reelected since, including her fourth term sworn in on January 3, 2023. Neubauer advocates for progressive causes like public schools, working families, climate change, healthcare, and reducing disparities. Her family has deep roots in Racine for five generations; her father, Jeffrey Neubauer, served in the Wisconsin Assembly from 1985 to 1989. Notable roles include board chair of the Racine Hospitality Center, member of the Racine Interfaith Coalition, NAACP-Racine Branch, Planned Parenthood, and Great Lakes Legislative Caucus.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Prairie School in Racine in 2010; Bachelor of Arts in History from Middlebury College ; Harvard Kennedy School Fellow.
- Early Experience: Co-founder and organizer of Divest Middlebury; co-founder and director of Fossil Fuel Divestment Student Network , a predecessor to the Sunrise Movement; legislative aide to State Representative Cory Mason; research assistant for Wisconsin State Assembly .
