Gregg Amore

Gregg Amore is a Democratic politician serving as Rhode Island's Secretary of State since 2023. He previously represented District 65 in the Rhode Island House of Representatives from 2013 to 2023, including as Deputy Majority Leader from 2021 to 2023.

Gregg Amore, born October 28, 1966, is a lifelong resident of East Providence, Rhode Island. A former high school teacher of Advanced Placement U.S. History and Civics for 27 years at East Providence High School, he entered politics in 2012, winning election to the Rhode Island House for District 65. There, he chaired the House Small Business Committee, the House Finance Subcommittee on Education, and served on key committees like Finance, Education, and Municipal Government. Notable legislative achievements include education reforms on curriculum and site-based management, boosting funding for English Language Learners, school construction , teacher recruitment, affordable college access, the Let RI Vote Act for expanded voting options, and oral chemotherapy insurance coverage. As Secretary of State , he has launched the RI Civic Leadership Program , advocated for a Rhode Island Voting Rights Act and anti-business identity theft laws, created penalties for threatening poll workers, regulated synthetic media in elections, and prioritized the Rhode Island State History Center. Awards include Rhode Island History Teacher of the Year , East Providence High School Hall of Fame , Solidarity Award from ARISE, and Legislator of the Year from Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
