Biography
Representative Greg Smith
Greg V. Smith was born on November 7, 1968, and is a Republican member of the Oregon House of Representatives representing the 57th District. As of 2025, he is the longest-serving member of the Oregon House. He resides in Heppner, Oregon, with his wife, Sherri, and has five children.
Smith has established himself as a prominent advocate for Eastern Oregon's interests, focusing on natural resource management, agricultural preservation, and stable funding for public schools. He is recognized as a leader willing to cross party lines when beneficial for his district. In August 2001, he was elected Second Vice-President to the Pacific Northwest Economic Region , a statutory public/private partnership involving Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, and the Yukon.
The 57th District encompasses Gilliam, Morrow, Sherman, and Wheeler counties in their entirety, most of Wasco County, parts of Jefferson and Umatilla counties, and small areas of Clackamas and Marion counties.
Education
Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Oregon University and an Master of Business Administration ** from Eastern Oregon University. He is also an **Honorary State FFA Degree Recipient and an Eagle Scout.
Political Experience
Smith first ran for the Oregon State House in 2000, winning election to represent District 59. Following redistricting in 2001, he moved into District 57 and has been re-elected consistently since then. He was sworn in for his thirteenth consecutive term in January 2025.
His committee assignments include the House Revenue Committee, Joint Ways and Means Committee , Joint Ways and Means Subcommittee on General Government , Joint Addiction and Community Safety Response Committee, Joint Legislative Administration Committee, and the Joint Emergency Board. He also serves as Budget Chair of the House Republican Caucus.
Prior to his legislative service, Smith served as a community advisory member for Senator Gordon Smith and as an intern for then-Oregon House Majority Leader Greg Walden. He is a small business owner and has worked in business development.
